Little did we know the wonders the Pacific Northwest had in store for us when my spouse and I moved to the Evergreen State more than half a decade ago. The simple fact that we are surrounded water, mountains (volcanoes, now dormant, but yes—I am not kidding!), and forests—really blows my mind! I was, I am, and I suspect I always will be in awe of this place’s beauty. Nature’s power to rejuvenate you is incredible, isn’t it? It can relax you, refresh you, and reward you with clean perspectives—everything unconditional. How awesome is that! Conditions applied, of course: The condition being—only when nature is not angry on humans.

Some crossings aren’t just geographic—
they mark the start of something new.

Crossing the Astoria-Megler Bridge never fails to take my breath away. Stretching 4.1 miles (6.6 km) across the Columbia River, this engineering marvel is more than steel and concrete—it is a reminder of connection. One side marks our home, the other side marks our home away from home, and what lies in between is the delicate balance of being suspended over water, carried forward by trust.

Every time we drive across, it reminds me of the unseen strength that holds life together—guiding us through transitions, sometimes known, sometimes unknown, and rewarding us with views that make the journey unforgettable.

Connections—seen or unseen—hold life together.

From up here, the noise fades.
Only the horizon remains.

It is one of those rare places where time seems to pause. Perspectives become clearer, and if you are lucky, you even leave with new ones. Your mind and body thank you for the gift of stillness, and your cortisol levels drop to an all-time low as you simply cherish the moment.

Our favorite hike has to be the Cape Falcon Trail, which begins at Short Sand Beach. The trail winds through lush forest and climbs steadily until you reach the top, where the views are nothing short of breathtaking.

Sometimes, you just need to zoom out and see the bigger picture.

Not every sunset needs words.
Some only need footprints.

And then there’s Seaside Beach. For us, nothing compares to a calm, unhurried walk along the shoreline. The rhythm of the waves, the cool breeze brushing against your face, and the vast ocean stretching endlessly—it’s grounding in the simplest way.

Add a majestic sunset into that mix, and you’ve got magic: a riot of colors painting the horizon, each shade more fleeting and precious than the last. For me and my wife, these walks are our perfect recipe for reset and rejuvenation.

When the sun sets, the soul resets.

From standing atop Cape Falcon with its sweeping views to walking barefoot on Seaside Beach under a sunset sky, the Pacific Northwest never fails to remind us of nature’s quiet power to reset, restore, and reconnect. These moments aren’t just stops on a trip—they’re echoes that stay with us, shaping the way we see our lives and the world around us. And that’s the beauty of it: every person, every journey, every moment has its own echo.
